Foundation Music Festival
We are delighted that there have been well over 100 entries into the Foundation Music Festival which will culminate in a "winners" virtual concert featuring some of the most enjoyable performances in each category. It has been a privilege to view so many lovely videos from musicians as young as 4 years old right up to the age of eighteen.
Congratulations to all those who entered the junior string category. There were many very very fine and enjoyable performances and it was hard to pick out the winners. Bravo to violinists Ishan (yr 6) and Haruka (yr 3) who both played with super character, and guitarists Ellie and Lottie for this performance of Ed Sheeran.
The Junior Woodwind category was a strong one with excellent performances all round. Jenna's oboe playing shone, but this category was notable for the talent amongst young flautists in Year 3! Lovely performances came from Abigail, Cecilia and this one from Sally. Congratulations to all who entered.
There was some very exciting trumpet playing in the junior brass category. Here is a very stylish prelude by Charpentier performed by Nimal in Year 4.
The Senior String category was a very strong one featuring lots of excellent and highly entertaining performances. Notably there are some super cellists in the Foundation. Oscar performed Haydn with fizzing virtuosity and Arianna's Bach is full of poise. This performance from Charlie of the Courante from Bach's Suite no. 1 positively dances with style.
The Senior woodwind category was sensationally good. Watch out for some lovely flute playing, some great ensemble playing (unusual in these isolated times) and a glorious arrangement of a Whitacre choral work from Grace using technology. There was also super oboe playing from Nathaniel, and this mischievous performance of Pan from Metamorphoses by Benjamin Britten played by Anna.
